The Project for the Enhancement of Customs Security at Aqaba in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

Country: Jordan

Client: JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency)

Period: April 2018 to February 2019

Outline:

This project is to strengthen the security measures of the Aqaba Customs by installing X-ray inspection equipment for large cargo at the Customs in the Aqaba Special Economic Zone (ASEZ) under the jurisdiction of the Jordan Customs Department.

As a result, the quality of the cargo inspection system of the Aqaba Customs improved and it enabled to carry out a quicker and more accurate inspection of imported cargo unloaded at the Aqaba Port. This improvement prevents smuggling of drug, firearms, and explosive objects, and is expected to consequently contribute to maintaining and stabilizing the national security of Jordan and its surrounding areas.
