Client: JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency)

Period: March 2019 to September 2020

Outline

In Honiara, the capital of the Solomon Islands, traffic congestion improved after the project for rehabilitation of the Kukum main road was partially completed, but it is still necessary to tackle other bottleneck areas in the city to cope with future increase in traffic volume. Therefore, there is an urgent need to study and prepare long-term road rehabilitation and public transport planning for the Honiara metropolitan area. The purpose of the study is to contribute to improving the convenience related to lives of local residents and economic activities in urban areas, by creating a masterplan including the selection of priority projects for the Honiara metropolitan area, as a material that contributes to the development of transport infrastructure mainly focused on roads in the metropolitan area.
