The Project for the Improvement of Fire Equipment in the West Bank

Country: Palestine

Client: JICA(Japan International Cooperation Agency)

Period: February 2023 to February 2025

Outline:

In the West Bank of the Palestinian Authority, approximately 10,000 fires occur annually, mainly due to mismanagement of fire, arson and household appliance accidents, while the shortage and ageing of firefighting vehicles due to the chronic financial shortfall of the Palestinian Authority hinders timely and appropriate firefighting and rescue operations, and causes the scale of damage to increase. This plan aims to maintain and strengthen the firefighting system by upgrading the ageing firefighting vehicles deployed in the three governorates of Jenin, Tulkarem and Ramallah, which are among the 12 governorates in the West Bank with the highest number of fires and rescue calls.

Fire pump vehicles deployed at fire stations in Jenin County. More than 30 years have passed since deployment. It is scheduled to be decommissioned due to frequent breakdowns, as well as loss of firefighting capability.
