Country: Independent State of Samoa
Client: JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency)
Period: May 2024 to February 2027
Outline:
In Samoa, engineers with a certain degree of experience in the road sector have not been able to establish themselves in the country, and improving road maintenance and management capacity is a major challenge. As for road safety measures, the country has not developed human resources capable of examining appropriate measures, so it is very difficult to gain new knowledge, as the same measures are simply repeated to control speed. In addition, the country is facing serious problems caused by slope failures in the context of natural disasters such as the recent climate change, and it is difficult to take appropriate measures in this area.
The project dispatches experts in each of the above-mentioned fields, and aims to transfer technology to improve road maintenance and management capacity, design traffic safety measures and plan appropriate measures for slope failure protection.
