Project for Capacity Development on Road Development in Papua New Guinea Phase II

Country: Independent State of Papua New Guinea

Client: JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency)

Period: January 2021 to Now

Outline:

Due to the rugged landscape and severe weather conditions, it is difficult to maintain the main roads in Papua New Guinea. The poor condition of most unpaved roads hinders their passage. Furthermore, insufficient road maintenance hinders the efficient transportation of agricultural products to consumption areas and restricts residents' access to public services, which significantly affects the country's economic and social development. The project aims to strengthen the capacity of the "Department of Works and Highways" (DoWH) staff for the maintenance and management of unpaved roads through a series of lectures and enhancement for efficient management of construction machines in collaboration with the procurement project of construction machines.
